= 400 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE TWO ROW WAMPUM =

This year marks the 400 year anniversary of the Two Row Wampum treaty. This first agreement between the Haudenosaunee and the European settlers outlines a mutual, three-part commitment to friendship, peace between peoples, and living in parallel forever.
In celebration and in support of the Two Row Wampum Renewal Campaign, we are excited to commission an artist to paint a mural of the interior of a Long House prominently in the heart of downtown Ithaca. We welcome submissions and ask that artists incorporate the Two Row Wampum Belt, George Washington Wampum Belt, Eagle Fan Wampum Belt and Haudenosaunee Confederacy Flag as details within the mural.
Timeline:
June 4: Submissions due by 4 pm.
June 8: Cayuga SHARE Farm Picnic – entries on display
June 15: Winning proposal announced.
September 15: Mural to be completed in time for the MRC First Peoples’ Festival.
Artist awarded: $2,000 to cover artist time and expenses
Eligibility:
Open to all. Individual artists or groups are welcome to apply. Applicants may submit multiple designs.
Where: The Seneca St. garage bus stop facing South, Ithaca, NY
Items to submit:
– Your name and contact
– Brief autobiographical statement
– Description of mural and materials list
– Sketches of your proposal
– Examples of previous mural or artistic experience
Proposals will be juried based on:
– Sketch, concept description, and creative vision
– Feasibility of project completion
– Quality of prior work
– Connection with/respect for indigenous culture
– Potential impact mural proposed could have on the Ithaca community
