An article on the Waging Nonviolence website, included the Two Row trek down the Hudson among their “12 wet-’n’-wild actions at sea in 2013.”

The website covers “People-Powered News and Analysis,” and features coverage of nonviolent movements throughout the world. In addition to the Two Row trek, this article in Nadine Bloch’s “Arts of Protest” column, included:

  • The small but feisty Safe and Green Energy (SAGE) Alliance which organized a flotilla and rally to highlight the dangers of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant
  • Voyages of Rediscovery, a group of Washington State students who paddled on the Columbia waterway to represent the salmon who can no longer reach their spawning grounds because of man-made dams without fish ladders
  • A water siege of about 3,000 villagers which surrounded the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu, India
  • A flotilla of 60 boats which successfully compelled the Indian (in Asia) government to act in support of the Sri Lankan Tamils
  • Radical Action for Mountain People’s Survival, which paddled on a deadly 2.8 billion-gallon toxic coal slurry in West Virginia
  • The SOS (Save Our Seas) Ocean team, a group of peace activists struggling against the construction of a naval base on the island of Jeju in South Korea
  • The West Papua Freedom Flotilla, an act of both defiance and indigenous solidarity, in the south Pacific
  • The Gaza’s Ark project (Palestinian shipbuilding and seamanship), the Sumud Justice Flotilla (challenging Israel’s restrictions on Palestinian shipping and fishing),
  • The Oil Free Seas Flotilla which occupied an area around an Anadarko ship’s drill-space near New Zealand) and
  • The Greenpeace action to stop oil drilling in Russian waters which resulted in the arrest and imprisonment of the entire crew.

Nadine concludes her article with the observation, “A rising tide, after all, lifts all boats.” The Two Row Wampum Renewal Campaign is proud to be part of this diverse group of people standing up for justice and the protection of Mother Earth.
