Town of Dryden Joins Growing List Supporting Two Row
Thanks to the leading efforts of Sarah Wraight, the Dryden Town Board passed the Two Row Wampum Campaign Resolution on August 15, 2013, with a few minor changes. Sarah gave an eloquent introduction to the Two Row Wampum and its significance and quoted inspiring words from Chief Jake Edwards in her presentation. Dryden residents and Two Row Wampum Campaign supporters and co-organizers Hilary Lambert, Jack Rossen and Brooke Hansen spoke afterwards about the relevance of the resolution to those living in Dryden, homeland of the Onondaga and Cayuga peoples.
Dryen Town Board members expressed their pleasure about having this brought to their attention and voted unanimously in favor of the resolution. The Dryden Town Board became quite well known in recent years for their stance on banning hydrofracking and at the 8/15 meeting they expressed their commitment to stop the conversion of the Cayuga Lake power plant from coal to gas, another non-renewable resource contributing to global warming. Brooke Hansen spoke of future collaborations that could be done in Dryden such as murals in public spaces like the one recently completed in Ithaca. Everyone living in the homeland of the Haudenosaunee should be encouraged to move our education into village, town and city councils to have them pass supportive resolutions.
